Opened by Scottish International bowler Richard Corsie in 1994 this indoor facility was the result of many years of work carried out by a small feasibility committee representing number two section of the Devon County Bowling Association (outdoor) comprising of eight clubs, namely, Tiverton Park, Tiverton West End, Tiverton Borough, Cullompton Old Club, Culm Vale, Hemyock, Bradninch, and Uffculme. Extended talks with the Mid Devon County Council and its representatives eventually resulted in a £300,000 grant towards the cost of £750,000 plus a 50 year lease of the ground at Amory Park. No money was available from the Sports Council and the National Lottery had not started, so loans from a local bank and bowlers in the district were arranged and ultimately a limited company was formed. The Mid Devon Indoor Bowls Centre Limited executive committee together with its bowls management committee consulted M.D. Nicolle of Guernsey an architect and International bowler, to design and build the centre to the highest possible standard. Today, we can boast we have one of the finest indoor facilities in the country comprising of four generous rinks to a level of + or - 2mm over the whole of the bowling area, with overhead heating and inset lighting in a suspended ceiling. A large comfortable lounge area with kitchen and bar; spacious Ladies and Gents changing rooms together with disabled facilities compliment the centre. Members can enjoy whatever bowling they wish from roll-ups to friendlies or from representative to County to National competitions. All are extended a very big welcome. Members of the public who wish to try the game of bowls will find a willing tutor always on hand if they telephone our office staff any morning of the week.
